SPRINGHILL DADS PLAYERS AWARDS
SEASON 2001/2002

A poor turn out for the pre-awards 5-a-side kick-about, but the lads had a good session.

Mal Barton - Les Maros - Marcel Maros
Martin Kingsbury - Tim Hart - Jim Allen
Jon Elms and Jerry Pugh

A big welcome to Springhill Dads Country Member, Jerry Pugh, who popped along for the awards and was going to drive right back to Cheltenham after the curry - what a mug trooper.  Dave Hedges sent the kit on and made his excuses - probably couldn't face the stick for all his misses last week vs Securicor.
Tony arrived a few minutes late but was delighted to be reunited with his old defensive partner, Jerry.
Harry reported in at half time with broken ribs!  He said he wasn't going to play but he just couldn't control himself and ended up doing a half hearted job in goal (no change there then, Ed).

After the footie a swift libation was taken at the pub-in-the-Park cos Martin's wife told him to go straight home - Rob Frisby and John Lynch were there had already started on the sherbet. Shortly after Tony O'Neill and Dave Hedges arrived, they'd been doing Kojak impressions driving around Millbrook - playing with Tony's motorway maintenance, flashing light on the roof of his car.  Jon Elms had a special welcome for Dave "I'll go up front" Hedges.

As Martin had to go home, early - one of the prizes had to be brought forward.

"Because you're worth it"

A brand New award for the best turned out Dad
 - previous winners ;

* Tim Hart, when he had his makeover at West Quay and come out looking like a young Richard Gere.
* John Frisby, for his stunning fashion and hair show on the Brighton Tour.

But this years winner is ;

Martin Kingsbury

He finally confirmed the prize when Max Frisby was seen asking Martin about his hair preparation and beauty tips in the dressing room after the Dads played Securicor at Thornden.

Martin was touched and was going straight home to put it on the mantelpiece alongside his treasured "Own Goal of the Year" award.

Then it was off to the Dakha Indian Restaurant, which was coincidentally across the road from the Dorchester, imagine that!
Tony O and Dave were again the last to turn up!
Everyone had a pint of Cobra (no cold bitter!) but Rob had a Kingfisher and the awards began;

Comedy Nominations ;

                          Tony O'Neill

My nomination for the Springhill Dads FC Nobble Peace Prize goes to Rob Frisby for his unstinting efforts in preventing mayhem and nuclear fallout in The Tom Pepper shortly after England trashed the Danes.----

Harry Virdee for the best customer at the Sun On Chinese - Spare Ribs Award I'm sure John Frisso took root last night. Is there a Charlie Dimmock award which reflects lack of pace but furious growth ?????????????????

Mal, is it too early to nominate miss ( or several ) of the season, if not, I'd like to nominate Dave Hedges for his efforts last night.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jon Elms

I'll be there. My player of the season is Tony Pascoe who sustained terrible injury but fought his way back to being an even worse player than before and who is scared of heading the ball....a natural Springhill Dad.

Jim Allen

2002 World Peace Award - Rob for not fighting on tour or in my car on the way home!

Andy Simpson

Own Goal - didn't Jimbo get one??? if not put him down for it.... Haircut - got to be Tim for putting a rinse through it!!!

Jason Furness

I have used the force to pick my choices..........

Haircut of the year - I was caught between 2 choices. The first being Martin Kingsbury and the second being Martin Kingsbury....I have decided on Martin Kingsbury!

Player of the year - I would like to nominate any of the new players that have started since I left - as I have seen all the other ones play.

Own goal of the year - Maldwyn (probably!)

Jerry Pugh

Own Goal - Rob Thorpe, he must have scored at least one

Bad Hair - Has to be Brian Medway
